Guidance Notes
Two sets of guidance notes with associated inspection forms are issued to cover tanker inspections.
One set, Part A, covers tractors and the chassis-cab part of rigid vehicles. There is an associated inspection form.
The second set, Part B, covers trailers and tank service equipment. There is an associated inspection form.
When inspecting an articulated tanker, part A is required for the tractor and part B for the trailer.
When inspecting a rigid tanker, both parts are needed although not all of part B (ie those parts that cover the electrical system, tyres and mudwings) already covered in part A. The Part B inspection form includes a shaded area that identifies the duplicated items.
As far as practicable, the guidance notes provide a standardised approach to tanker inspections; where unusual or unorthodox design details are considered, it is strongly recommended that advice is first sought from the safe loading pass scheme by contacting admin@slps.uk.com
